How Bottoms Up Gatherings texts work.

Bottoms Up Gatherings sends recurring event texts only after a guest chooses and confirms SMS updates.

Fourth of July keyword enrollment

Guests open their invitation link from an email or personal invitation. The optional SMS panel on a private July invitation displays the program number with a “text GATHER” link; the guest proactively sends GATHER from their own mobile phone to request optional Fourth of July updates. No unsolicited text is required to start enrollment. The number is not listed on public event pages. A guest can instead enter or confirm their own mobile number, choose the separate unchecked SMS box, and click “Send confirmation text.” Neither action is required for RSVP. GATHER is not consent: the first reply gives the program disclosures before asking for the invitation name. The guest then receives a full consent request and must reply YES; a new or mismatched contact also waits for host review. No new event-series SMS consent activates before YES and any required review.

If the submitted name does not match the contact record or the number is new, the guest is told the request is waiting for review. A host checks or corrects the contact before activating the new consent.

Private-invitation enrollment

A valid private invitation keeps RSVP separate from optional SMS enrollment. A guest can save the RSVP without providing a mobile number, checking the SMS box, or accepting SMS terms. The text-updates panel has an explicit “No thanks—continue without texts” choice. Only a guest who chooses SMS, checks its unchecked event-specific box, and requests a confirmation text receives a consent prompt; SMS consent is recorded only after they reply YES. YES confirms texting only—it does not save an RSVP or claim a dish. Consent is separate for each event series. The preview below uses placeholder details and does not send a message.

Hosted review screenshots

The invitation screenshots use the real guest components and RSVP endpoint in an isolated local test database, with synthetic guest and neutral summer-event data. No guest message was sent. The confirmation exchange uses the same message templates as the live flow.

Host-recorded verbal consent

A host may ask a guest directly about SMS updates for one named gathering. The host records the guest’s affirmative answer, phone number, event series, date and time, and which host asked, then sends a text confirmation request. Recurring updates remain inactive until the guest replies YES; the app then records consent and sends the enrollment confirmation.

Reply HELP to the same number that sent your Bottoms Up Gatherings notice for SMS help, or reply STOP to opt out. START or UNSTOP restore only event updates you previously chose; they do not enroll you for a new event. To begin Fourth of July enrollment, use the number shared in your direct invitation or prior notice, text GATHER, provide your name, review the consent details, and reply YES.
